Production Day 1

On our first day of filming, we recruited our classmate Mizgan to play the part of the journalist. As we had already briefed her on the ideas and desired aesthetics of the music video, she came costumed in the appropriate attire curated from the Pinterest board she was given for inspiration. Through consultation with our career counselor, Miss Sehrish, we were able to secure the location for shooting – her office.

As the person responsible for shooting this scene, I directed Mizgan to pose in various parts of the room, attempting to determine which spot had the best lighting. One of the spots had Mizgan with her back to two open windows, which greatly hindered the cinematic effect I wished to create, having an interplay of lighting and shadows. By closing these windows and setting our RGB light to a warm tone, which was then held by a student, we endeavored in creating shadows in the background and across half of the face of our actress. This brought out an invaluable contrast to her features which perfectly portrayed the multifaceted and mysterious image of the journalist.

We made use of our shot list and allotted time of one hour to capture a wide range of shots, prioritizing shooting the scenes from numerous angles to create visual interest and dimension. With the help of my Canon M50, we incorporated both close-up and wide angle shots to make for interesting and effective storytelling.

We then scoped out the shooting locations we had obtained permission for, most importantly the pool. School staff informed us that the pool was to be drained that day, leading us to request the school principal, Miss Amber, that the draining be delayed one day, so we would be able to complete our work within the planned time frame.

Our first day also consisted of capturing the shots for our dance scenes. By contacting the dance president of our school, Dua Rehman, we got in touch with two o-level students who were happy to partake in our project. They were briefed on the premise of our music video and given a dress code of polished casual, or an ensemble of white shirt and black trousers. As soon as the school day ended, we gathered in the auditorium and began instructing the students on choreography and the themes we wished to portray. One of the students was not so comfortable with the process and struggled to perform, while the other was able to nail it in a short time. Owing to a time constraint, we decided to resume this particular process the next day, with another volunteer who experienced no difficulty in coming up and performing the desired steps.
