Making a Logo

cpm35 2024-05-21 193304.111.jpg

Now it was time to create a logo for our record label which encompassed the label's strong brand identity. The name evokes truth, authenticity and artistic freedom which are values I wanted the logo to portray in a simple, memorable and adaptable manner to use for purposes like the website, merchandise e.t.c.

Whilst brainstorming I first came up with the idea of the "Veritas Scale" which encloses a balanced scale with a stylized "V" on one side and a record on the other symbolizing fair dealing alongside commitment to transparency for both artists and listeners. However, I believed that this logo would not highlight that the company is a record label at first glance and seemed more like the logo for a law firm thus I switched it up and came up with the idea of combining an open book with a vinyl record to portray the idea of free artistic expression and storytelling using the book as a symbol to connote this while the vinyl record is a symbol which signifies the music itself. The combination emphasizes Veritas Records' commitment to authentic music that tells genuine stories.

For visualizing both concepts I had for the logo, I used Meta AI and prompted it to create images based on both my ideas. This helped me make my final choice of logo design.

To create the actual logo, I used good-old trusty Canva. Through the "elements" tab, I found "graphics" of a vinyl record, an open book and clouds which I assembled together then put on "Veritas Records" through combining two fonts: "The Seasons" and "Petit Formal Script".

The font choices were made since "The Seasons" is a serif font, which adds a touch of elegance and tradition whilst "Petit Formal Script" offers a more playful and artistic touch, possibly reflecting the diverse styles of music we believe Veritas Records represents.

The graphics I used included a vinyl to symbolize music (it's a record label, duh), an open book symbolizing transparent storytelling highlighting Veritas' focus on truth and authenticity alongside using clouds which portray a sense of limitlessness for the artists on the label.

Here is a timelapse of me assembling the logo (please note that I did make changes to the logo afterwards thus there are some minor differences between the final product of the timelapse and the real final product).

Since I do not have Canva Premium, I could not have a transparent background for the logo so I did what anyone would, searched up "background remover engine" on google and used the first software that popped up. It gave me a PNG file of the logo with a transparent background so I could use the logo for the social media of the digipack (saves me 1000 rupees a month on Canva Premium lol).
